The challenge of capturing the essence of a living being on paper. Recreating that spark, that feeling of energy and movement in careful layers and delicate strokes.

Kait has been drawing for most of her life, although art was always a hobby, something she did occasionally when the mood struck. Like many others seeking comfort and purpose during the winter of 2020, Kait unpacked her art supplies once again and began working on a portrait of her friends’ dog as a Christmas gift. She enjoyed that so much she kept her art supplies out and set up a little art studio for herself in her basement. From there she worked on a gift for her parents, a remembrance piece for a family member, and then a thank you gift for another friend, and soon enough Kait realized she really enjoyed the feeling she got when she saw how happy her art made others feel. Maybe this hobby could be something more…

Kait works primarily in soft pastels and pastel pencils, and occasionally in graphite pencil. She is exploring different paper types, going between sanded pastel paper and pastelmat depending on the piece. Animals are Kait’s favorite subject, and she is looking forward to expanding her portfolio from dogs, cats, and horses into some more exotic animals in the near future.

Running her own art business is a part-time endeavor, as Kait works full-time in development for a growing nonprofit in her hometown. When she’s not working or drawing, Kait can be found either at the barn with her horse, out with her two rescue dogs, or spending time with her husband (not necessarily in that order…).
